Nobel Prize Winner has dinner with local Tories

The Wyre Forest Conservative Association held its annual dinner on Friday at the Bewdley Ramada. Nearly 150 local members and their guests came to hear the guest speaker, David Trimble, speak of his work during the Northern Ireland peace process.

Lord Trimble was the Member of Parliament for Upper Bann between 1990 and 2005 and was instrumental in securing the peace process in Northern Ireland. For this work, he jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998, with John Hume, and was elected Northern Ireland’s first First Minster in the newly created assembly.

In 2006, David Trimble was given a seat in the Ouse of Lords and he now sits as a Conservative Peer, continuing his work for Northern Ireland.

“It is an incredible honour for the Wyre Forest Conservative Association to have Lord Trimble as our guest speaker.” Said Mark Garnier after the event. “In this time of global terrorism, we sometimes forget how dreadful the situation was in Northern Ireland and how it affected us all in England. David Trimble and his colleagues were instrumental in bringing peace to this area and it was fascinating hearing about David’s work at the time.

Death of a Community Champion

It is with great sadness that it is announced the sudden death of Cllr Mike Partridge, who passed away earlier today. Cllr Partridge was admitted to Worcester Royal Hospital yesterday and passed away peacefully in his sleep overnight.

Cllr Mike Partridge represented Arley Kings on Wyre Forest District Council as well as serving on Stourport Town Council.

Cllr John Campion, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council says “I am devastated by the sudden loss of a great community champion. Mike was a true local character who always put his community first and for whom nothing was too much trouble. His sudden loss will be difficult to come to terms with and a massive void is left in his community. His legacy will be his hard work for the community he loved and served with pride.”

He added “Mike was not only a local champion, he was also a family man, and my thoughts and prayers are with Leslie, his wife, and their family.”

The funeral will be held on Monday 2^nd November at 11.45 am at St Bartholomew’s Church, Areley Kings, Stourport On Severn and will be followed by a private cremation at Worcester Crematorium.

Wyre Forest residents can opt out of receiving a visit from Trick or Treaters this Halloween by placing a No Trick or Treat poster in their window. These are available from any Police station.

Sad News

It is with great sadness that Wyre Forest Conservatives announces the death of its Chairman Mr Frank Butters who died yesterday. Frank had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer only a few weeks ago having until very recently led a very active life.

It is expected that the funeral will take place at Wolverley church and arrangements will be announced shortly.

The Associations thoughts and prayers are with Franks’ wife, Caroline and his family at this very sad time as a great local man is taken from us so prematurely.

Bewdley & Arley ward councillors after the tour

Wyre Forest Conservatives arranged a trip for some of its members to see one of the Concorde fleet at Filton in Gloucestershire today. Volunteers and councillors from WFCA were show around the outside and inside of the Concorde GBOAF, more commonly known as Alpha Foxtrot by the crew who worked on her.

Alpha Foxtrot was the last concorde to be built and also the last one ever to fly, landing at Filton on 26th November 2003. To quote the pilot as he stepped off her for the last time “from today, the world is a bigger place”.

We recommend that anyone should take the time to go to Filton and see this remarkable aircraft. The tour is run entirely by volunteers, the proceeds of entry are going towards funding a hanger to move her in to. Visit http://www.concordeatfilton.org.uk/ for more details.

After seeing the marvelous aircraft the party went on to Clifton to for lunch and to see Brunel’s suspension bridge. We have social events every few weeks both locally and throughout the county.
