It is Summer

13 07 2009

All politicians need a holiday at some point, they're only human

Avid readers of the Wyre Forest CF blog will have noticed that it has been a bit quiet on the news front recently.  This is because most of our members and volunteers have been, or are currently on a well earned holiday after successful election season.

There are plenty of activities and events for Wyre Forest Residents this summer. Have a browse of the websites listed below for details.

Tories Celebrate County Success

14 06 2009

Worcestershire Conservatives have been in celebratory mood for the past week or so having won 42 out of the 57 seats available on the County Council.

Wyre Forest’s association had their usual post-election party on Thursday night. Awards were given to Marcus Hart for best canvasser and John Campion for best attendance at leafleting.

We  are raring to go for the next election which is likely to be the General and for the District Council elections next year. Maybe YOU would like to be one of the Conservative candidates? Phone our office for more details on 01562 823820

Stourport Youth PACT 4th June 2009

14 06 2009

Polling day coincided with Stourport Youth PACT which was hosted at Stourport High school. The gallery consisted of selected pupils from year 9.

Issues raised included:

  • Graffiti on the Barnfield road play area
  • Proxy sales of alcohol on the Walshes
  • Drinking/nuisance caused by people in their late teens at the shops on Burlish estate and loitering in their cars
  • A desire for more variety of shops in the town and less empty ones!
  • Somewhere to socialise in winter, like Bewdley Youth Cafe
  • Lack of structured activities on Burlish Top/estate – young people have to walk to town centre/river side
  • Request for Youth club at High school to be open more nights per week
  • Lack of toilet facilities – pupils that live on Arley Kings side of river have to divert to the River Side car Park behind the Civic Centre when walking to or from school or use those in the Co-op.

The three issues voted for were:

  1. Request for a Youth Cafe
  2. Variety of High Street stores
  3. Structured activities/play area for Burlish

Perhaps the most interesting issue raised is number 2. As these pupils were 13-14 years old they could potentially live a life time residing in Stourport, it is very community minded of them to want shopping facilities improved in the town. Perhaps young people throughout the district should be invited to have their say on how their town and village centres should look in the future?

Good Day for Wyre Forest Conservatives

5 06 2009

The Conservative Party won 7 out of the 10 county council seats in Wyre Forest yesterday, an increase of 2 on the 5 elected in 2005.

Congratulations go to new comers Mumshad Ahmed in Kidderminster St George’s & St Oswalds, Nathan Desmond in Kidderminster St Marys and Anne Hingley in Kidderminster St Barnabas divisions. John Campion held his seat in Bewdley, Steve Clee in Chaddesley, Marcus Hart in Kidderminster St Johns and Gordon Yarranton in Cookley, Wolverley & Wribbenhall divisions. Congratulations also to Fran Oborski (Liberal) winning St Chads and Jim Parish and John Thomas (both Independent Community & Health Concern) winning the two seats in Stourport.

Wyre Forest residents seemed to reject the Labour party completely with them coming last in 5 of the seats including one of the two they held, Kidderminster St Marys.

No doubt Gordon Brown will arrogantly ignore the polling results across the country and claim that ‘most people think he is STILL the man to lead the country out of recession, clean up politics and save the universe….’

Have You Been Canvassed Yet?

Mark Garnier, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Wyre Forest "out canvassing"

With the County Council and European Parliament Elections fast approaching on 4th June, residents of Wyre Forest will no doubt have seen the quantity of political literature delivered to their doors go through the roof. As will the number of visitors knocking the door with  Labour, Liberal, Liberal Democrat, Green, UK Independence, British National and Independent Community & Health Concern party candidates contesting one or more of the ten county seats in Wyre Forest.

The 10 Conservative Candidates for Worcestershire County Council Election are:

Bewdley – John Campion

Chaddesley – Stephen Clee

Cookley, Wolverley & Wribbenhall – Gordon Yarranton

St Barnabas – Anne Hingley

St Chads – Julian Phillips

St Georges & St Oswalds – Mumshad Ahmed

St Johns – Marcus Hart

St Marys – Nathan Desmond

Stourport (Two Councillor Division) – John Holden & Mike Salter

All 5 of these candidates are sitting county councillors, the other 5 have been working in their division for at least a year and have kept in touch with residents through regular newsletters all year round – they don’t just appear at election time. With a few honourable exceptions in the district, how many non-Conservative political leaflets do YOU get through your door during the cold winter months?
